Workshops

 

Teams of students from architectural schools will work on research in their respective capitals. Seven teams will share their experience of urban spaces with the aim of reflecting city development and proposing future visions for Central European capitals. The workshops are meeting points, places for discussions and presentations of research results in the presence of renowned professionals and experts. This concentration of creative potential will provide relevant research results and will strengthen the cultural background of the spaces we live in.

Workshop II

SecondUrbanity Workshop is going to be held in Technical Library in Prague between 3-6.12 2009. Student teams from 7 European cities will introduce their concepts for each city, in presence of experts from various fields (architects, politics, sociologists, theoreticians).

4. 12. 2009 /URBANITY/ FUTURE OF CE CITIES/

at 10:00 starts a Round table about future of Central European cities and their new concepts by URBANITY students with architect Elia Zenghelis, philosopher Lieven de Cauter, tutors from seven European architectural schools /Kádár, Gzell, Klauck, Vaško, Gruber, Kohout, Fialová, Zorec/.

Event is a part of URBANITY Workshop No. 2 and takes place at Computer room in the National Technical Library in Prague

 

4. 12. 2009 /URBANITY/ HETEROTOPIA REVISITED/

at 18:30 starts a guest lecture of the Belgian famous philosoper and writer Lieven de Cauter as a part of URBANITY Workshop No. 2 at Ballingův hall in the National Technical Library in Prague!!!

Tomáš Valena
City planner, urbanist. He teaches at the Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften – FH München, subject field Architecture. Together with Damjan Prelovšek and Zdeněk Lukeš, they prepared the exhibition and book Josip Plečnik – The Architekt of the Prague Castle (1996). Selected publications: Prager Architektur und die europäische Moderne (together with Ulrich Winko, 2005); Stadt und Topographie. Die europäische Stadt im topographischen Kontext unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der bayerischen Stadt (1990).

 

Mariusz Czepczynski
A cultural geographer specialized in the changes in central European cities after 1989. Mariusz Czepczynski is Assistant Professor in the Department of Economic Geography at the University of Gdansk, Poland. His research fields are: post-socialist urban cultural landscape, local trends and development strategies, cultural heritage, social transformation of post-socialist cities. Selected publications: Cultural Landscape of Post-socialist Cities. Representation of Powers and Needs (2008).

Jiří Hrůza
Architect and professor of architecture. He worked as a city planner in Košice (Slovakia) and Northern Bobemia, co-founded the Office of the Main Architect of the City of Prague. A leader of the project of urban concept for the capital city of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Founding member of the ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners). He teaches at universities, and is an author of many publications (Theory of the City, City of Prague, World of Architecture, Dicctionary of contemporary Urbanism etc.). In 1978, he was awarded the Herder Price. 

Miroslav Marcelli

Philosopher and editor-in-chief of the magazine Anthropos. He is a professor at the Faculty of Arts of the Comenius University in Bratislava. He focuses on the history of classical philosophy, semiotics and some authors of the contemporary French philosophy. He wrote monographies: Michel Foucault or To Become Different, The Case Barthes, Philosophers in the City. He translated several books, mainly by French authors such as Piaget, Foucault or Deleuze.

 

Christian Teckert

From 2006, professor at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel. At the same time, he teaches at the Institut für Kunst und Architektur at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna. He focuses on the space strategies. In 2003 he co-founded an association as-if Architekten, in 1999 Office for Cognitive Urbanism. Selected publications: with Andreas Spiegl: „Prospekt" (2003) and "Last Minute" (2006), both Walther König, Köln.

 

Elia Zenghelis

Architect and professor of architecture. He teaches at two prestigious and internationally renowned schools of architecture – Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. He also cooperates with other academic institutions – Bartlett School of Architecture in London, ETH Zürich, Columbia University in New York and Princeton University. Elia Zenghelis is together with Rem Koolhaas the co-founder of the architectural office OMA.
